Thank you Melbourne Law School student volunteers

NAAFLS has been fortunate to arrange a placement opportunity at the Melbourne Law School with seven law students who volunteered for NAAFLS. Working out of a temporary NAAFLS office at the Melbourne Law School, the team has undertaken some amazing work to assist NAAFLS for the Coronial Inquest into Domestic and Family Violence in the Northern Territory.

The inquest, which commenced in June this year, is a landmark enquiry into the Northern Territory Government’s response to domestic, family and sexual violence. It is being held across Alice Springs and Darwin and separately investigates the deaths of four Aboriginal women at the hands of their current or former partners, despite historical domestic violence reports.

In addition to the invaluable work undertaken for the inquest, the team have also done critical work in progressing a significant number of applications for Victims of Crime compensation on behalf of NAAFLS’ clients.

NAAFLS wishes to thank the team for their hard work and tireless efforts over the semester. We are hopeful that they all come up North to do some more work with NAAFLS in the near future. We also extend a big thank you and our gratitude to the Melbourne Law School for enabling this opportunity.
