NO MORE walk against Domestic and Family Violence

On 1 December 2023, NAAFLS staff joined Charlie King, AM, and hundreds of attendees consisting of mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters, at Casuarina Square for the NO MORE walk as part of an international 16-day campaign to take a stand against domestic and family violence.

Each year, over the Christmas period, there is a spike in family violence and this year the message was clear: enough is enough!

This year also saw Australia’s largest coronial inquest into domestic violence deaths held in the Territory, with Coroner Elisabeth Armitage spending four months exploring the systematic issues leading to the deaths of four Aboriginal women at the hands of their partners in Darwin and Alice Springs.

Domestic violence rates in the Territory are seven times higher than the national average. Since 2000, 83 Territory women, of which 94 percent were Indigenous, have lost their lives at the hands of their partners.
